sig p365 problems
I love my P365. Travis Pike is a Marine infantry veteran, firearms enthusiast, and NRA certified instructor. It is rare to see such complete detailed reviews, there always seems to be something missing but not in this instance. I need something I can pocket carry when not wearing cargo pants or jeans (church for example, etc.) Once Springfield and S&W figure out how to make a comparable gun without patent infringement we will be in a true golden age of carry, and the Shields and XDs’s of the world will be obsolete. But now that the (ugly) latter is my EDC, I appreciate 1) the 8 additional rounds total (including one spare mag) and 2) the greater power of the 9x19 cartridge. ...one could ALMOST go shirtless in the beach and still conceal this masterpiece. The magazines are a tad pricey, but they are well made. But in case that werenât enough, SIG has also unveiled a line of ammo made specifically for small guns like the P365. Do you have a link for a review from women? Its WAY too light for me to carry comfortably with a round in the chamber without a holster. OBNXS1, you asked about something that I totally meant to mention in the write-up…the follower wear. At around 1500 rounds I fired my first steel-cased rounds through the guns. I saw little difference in handling or accuracy and easily shot center mass at 15 yards, even when testing the rapid fire trigger reset. Great texture allows for better controlled shots. I don’t have a problem with my Walther or Kahr magazines whether they be 6 round or i5 round mags. That means lots of practice and with the .380 that means lots of money. The pistol features 3-dot, open sights. No jams, failure to ejects, or magazine failures occurred. Did you notice wear on the followers in your mags? My warrantee has expired as it has been over a year and sig says I can, once again, send it in and they will have it looked at for a forth time. It came with 2-12 round mags. I have a ankle holster that works really great with the sig when I am wearing sweats. Some guns are just more picky. My first trigger press actually surprised me. I personally feel that a failure rate of no more than 1 in every 500 rounds is an excellent standard. It doesn’t feel like I’m holding a board like the PPS and Glock 43. You can tell from the wear on the button snaps that I really like carrying the P365 in this GrayGuns holster based on the PHLSTER Classic design. Group sizes were consistently around 3 inches at 15 yards (didn’t have a longer range to test with at the time). Shooting the SIG P365 is more fun than it should be. I was never that accurate nor a fan of smaller handguns. This little gun is super reliable, great to carry and after I had better sights installed a great shooter. But I agree with you on wanting to see a slightly different design on the mag release. This kit is compatible with any Sig P320 slide in 9/40/357. I just purchased my 1st CC piece and your review is what sold me on it! Unless you’re in a closet (no lights) you can’t see the sights. The somewhat loose standard that was followed was no cleaning and fresh lubrication applied only once every 500 rounds. When the sales rep put that P365 in hand… it was like Madonna says, “Like a virgin, touch for the very first time.” I fell in love with it because it felt so perfectly fit in my small hands. Well, I certainly think it beats the guns you mentioned. Please let me know if I can help you any further in the matter. Question on defensive ammo, I was using gold dot short barrel and went to the 365 v-crown, is any one having a issue with the v- crown not expanding through cloths? True, too, is the fact that, with more rounds on board, the P365 ⦠So I wanted to thank you for being honest and really putting in the work on this review!! I have since had no other malfunctions with either of the two guns. More so than most small firearms, and if you have weaker hand strength, I think this is an excellent choice. I absolutely disagree. 16 shots later the same thing happened. I just received my CC. I’ll try to let you know. It’s proportioned nicely for smaller hands. An optimized grip angle and textured grip further ⦠I bought the Sig P-365 XL and love it, it is now my concealed carry firearm. Thank you. I usually don’t read reviews because it’s either a bash fest or fan boy that paid to make it sound better than it is .. Sent in, was repaired and now has thousands thru it without a failure. Are you drawing from a holster? So when I say they are crazy for believing reviews and not trying one for themselves, they just dismiss me and go on there way (probably glock lovers). One failure-to-feed malfunction occurred at around 700 rounds with one load of 124 grain Winchester Ranger-T +P. The P365 is really nicely balanced with a fully loaded 12-round extended magazine. I have felt all alone in my love for this little gun. Personally, I have three. Some think so, but I did not experience any issues after 5,000 rounds. I'm closing in on the 1000 round mark on one and about 500 on the other with no problems. Yes, I do. Concealed carriers have also bought into the idea that for a gun to fit those requirements that it MUST be single-stack. Carry on! The width of the grip is less than an inch wide which is fine. Quick question. If you want to know what gun to have, ask someone who’s handled them daily for a long time. Excellent article. For well over a decade, my daily concealed carry gun was a full-size, steel-frame 1911 in .45 ACP. If it fails, I’m probably through. A number of people including some respected reviewers have indicated that the gun may not be quite ready for prime time, that it was released too early, almost like a “beta version” to be tested by the gun-buying masses. The magazines for this gun are very expensive at $45 - $50 bucks apiece but they are great quality. If not, is it a part that can be added on by a local gun builder? Great article. Glock had some minor issues with the Gen 4 models and the 42 and 43 as well. I have had orders of magnitude greater issues with my Glock 19 Gen 5. This represents a 0.2% failure rate or a 99.8% reliability rate. We will see very soon. What an EXCELLENT review. I should have checked this before purchasing. If your hands are big, your right-hand thumb should be well above the safety lever. Thank you! I know for a fact that SIG worked up dozens of test models and fired tens of thousands of test rounds through them before they released the gun. But it FEELS less snappy than similar guns in this category. When slowly loading the trigger, I can pause just after the final stage of creep and apply the last few ounces of pressure to break the shot. The gun worked FLAWLESSLY! Please feel free to ask if there’s anything else I can help you with! I’m not worried about a simple jam that can be cleared. Wizardry!! Thanks for your thoughts on the manual safety version. I am wondering if others have experienced this. I think that is when they stopped production, to make the necessary fixes. Are you going to do a follow-up blog/video? I like the P365 well enough that owning just one is not enough. Affiliate Disclosure - What's the Pistol Wear neoprene holster that you are using. So here’s the big question: can I be comfortable that if I have to use this particular P365 in a life and death situation that it will perform with the 147 gr. It’s not a compromise like the S&W 380 Shield EZ. Mr. Boman, you did the most thorough review I’ve ever seen! The Sig P365 In 2020: Still the Best Concealed Carry Handgun. The front sight is nice and big, but it comes at the cost of filling the rear sight a little much for my taste. I like the gun and especially the trigger pull. Prior experience with other sig models’ great quality sights were part of the reason I picked the P365 over the Shield M2.0. When’s the .40 S&W/.357 Sig version come out, with 9+1 and 11+1 mags? While I have seen a few malfunctions occur, and some seemed to experience more malfunctions than I did including with brass-cased ammunition, I can still count the TOTAL number of malfunctions I have witnessed in all these other guns on less than two hands. Click Here For The Schedule Near You, Two Glock 9mm or 380 Gadgets That Actually Help, Save The Date For the First-Annual Guardian Conference. This handled the problem and gave me a bit more accuracy. Again, as I stated in the article, my own personal Glock 43 has been less reliable than the P365. So I ended up with about 3,400 rounds fired through my personal gun and 1,600 rounds through the evaluation gun from SIG. Ive had mine for about 6 or 7 months now, I did right away buy 2 12 round mags, ( I carry it with one in it and one in reserve) which I think make the 365 much better to shoot. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised! and I strongly suggest anyone considering a p365 do some practice sight alignment/picture acquisition from a draw in a range of lighting conditions before buying. Hitting accurate double taps is pretty straightforward. If that helped, please subscribe to our YouTube channel since we’re adding new videos every week! I had purchased the p365 1 month ago from Cabelas, It is the one with the stainless steel slide compared to the black slide . The article is a great review, but I thought I was reading about a .380 ACP for the longest time!!!! Modular Chassis Construction—While SIG Sauer does not really advertise this fact, the reality is that the gun is built similarly to the P320 with a serialized “frame” or chassis that can easily be removed from the grip module. You also get a much better purchase in holding the gun. A nice photo of the P365 just because … and I have a lot of photos! Thanks. Testing was done throughout with minimal cleaning. I’m not happy, but still hopeful. This represents a little more than 1 malfunction every 1,000 rounds, I estimate about 1 in every 750. Thanks again for covering everything in question. Phenomenal gun set up, we the consumer need to know we can rely on it like we could our Glocks for so many years. It was disturbing though as I was concerned of weather or not I was going to lose my hand. My personal belief is that the gun is unlocking a tad early while gases are still elevated locking the empty casing in the chamber. There is no handgun more popular for concealed carry than the slim-line 9mm. I would love to own/carry this gun as I am sure it has the potential to be a better gun than the Ruger LC9s I currently carry but I have the LC9s currently “figured out” and it is being reliable now though not always (I did not like certain ammo nor the extended mag). But first, let’s talk about some of the features and specifications of the gun. The grip—I think the grip is too “shallow.” It is a very small gun. Thanks There are also plenty of other guns out there with grip texturing that is more rough. A 12-round magazine is also available, and while it extends the grip length, it is still just barely longer than some other guns with standard capacity magazines in them. I am not sure what to make of that because my experience with several different P365’s has been quite positive. I call it the “little gun that shoots like a big gun.” This is true of the felt recoil and muzzle rise that occurs when firing, but it is also true in how accurate the gun is and the ease with which confidence comes to hit your intended target. The P365 is super thin, lightweight, but the texturing makes for a confident, repeatable firing grip. Thanks. Failure-to-Extract Malfunctions—in my experience this malfunction is the most common one to occur with the P365 platform. I tested both guns with a variety of ammunition brands, types, and weights over the summer: Throughout testing, nearly 30 different varieties, bullets and weights were used to check for ammo compatibility issues. The result? I decided to try the 365 at a rental gun range, and was so surprised at how well I shot it that I bought one that same day. The CCW market is a crowded one. I feel you should state the caliber in the title of the article so someone like me, who has never heard of the P-365 would know what they are reading about. To keep this an apples to apple comparison, we are only comparing 9mms to 9mms. The XRAY3 Day/Night Sights are excellent, very visible and bright in both daylight and low-light conditions. I am very happy with the one I’ve bought. Thanks for the article. Sig really came through . One is flush fitting and the other features a slight pinky extension. Have to wait and see how she shoots this weekend. The SIG P365 is a striker-fired 9mm Striker fired semi-auto featuring a steel frame, XRAY3 Day/Night sights, a 10-round flush fit magazine, and black polymer grips. But use the Maglula Uplula to assist, and it makes it substantially easier to load. I’m not sure what sorcery (you will see similar references throughout this review) is going on there, but it is a very nice, light, crisp trigger for a striker-fired gun. It’s my favorite subcompact 9mm so far. Hope I didn’t make a $500 mistake. I have several talon grips and they never disappoint. The M&P Shield with a factory 8-round magazine is longer than the P365 with the 12-round magazine. It’s effortless to carry and super comfortable. I chose it over the S&W M&P M2 only because of it’s smaller size. The other 46 seemed no different than any other 115 grain rounds and shot fine. This would give you twice the capacity of the Glock 43, and nearly twice that of the capacity of the S&W Shield and Walther PPS M2. As for the ambi safety…I don’t see it being a problem for your thumb. If not, what is a gun that’s captured you? Bore axis height is an overrated factor, but regardless the SIG P365 performs exceptionally well in this regard. I bought a P365 and like it so much that I’ve ordered a second, and sold my three Kahrs. Privacy Policy and So far, my biggest complaint is the mag release: it is awkwardly uncomfortable to access and depress. The great sights and trigger make it a smooth shooter. No problems the gun runs great so far, great trigger and sights. I always like learning about new holsters and manufacturers I didn’t know about before! I like the contouring, the stippling, the length—there’s many great aspects of the grip. If you really are serious about ballistics, then you should also know that there is no perfect round, but there are a number of them that are all “suitable.” I have not seen anything ballistics test-wise that would suggest the RA9T is substantially better than say Federal HST or Speer Gold Dot. The P365 conceals extremely well, without compromising comfort or my ability to draw the gun. But if it doesn’t cause any issues, then besides the OCD-like irritation of the aesthetics of the magazine followers, I don’t consider it an issue. I am seriously considering giving in and carrying something smaller than a full size pistol all the time. I haven't had a chance to try them yet but they look interesting. Not that this has kept me from shooting them quickly and efficiently. It is hard to miss! But thanks for the kind compliment about the review!! I have used only quality ammo, ie. I’m almost always resting my thumb on the slide lock, which creates a situation where the slide rarely locks to the rear after the last shot. Went to the range today and had battery failures on #s 74 and 96. I just bought one of these for daily carry. This was one of only 3 malfunctions I personally witnessed with brass-cased ammunition out of over 10K rounds (mine and others). The initial press release showed what’s a small gun, but showed nothing for scale. Unless you’re in a closet (no lights) you can’t see the sights. Just picked this up for my daughter and took it to the range. So, youâve got the gun. Most people don’t realize that all the added updates takes up the cost of the lesser one. Besides the trigger weight, smoothness and break being really good, the position at which it breaks is part of the secret as well I think. It did not stovepipe, the casing stayed in place after discharge. Initial Differences. Trigger bar?? I LIKE shooting it! It is a TINY gun but yet somehow I am still able to shoot it like a gun that’s twice its size?! The 12 round gives me a great grip, my targeting went way up from the 43 Glock. Using my wife’s computer. I ordered the Sig ITP holster for it so I’ll try carrying it that way to see if I like it. And stay in touch with newsletters of our best articles on techniques, guns, & gear. I have some MagGuts on the way in the next few weeks! I think a hybrid approach would have been better—flat, but have the rear of the button start flush with the grip. This is the big “elephant in the room” part of the review. As part of its âcomplete systems providerâ mantra, SIG Sauer also offers dedicated holsters along with the aforementioned light and laser. I would recommend buying the 12 round mags as they give you so much more comfort and grip while shooting. Thank you, John! Let’s talk about ergonomics here. I had zero hitches with any of the ammo I used. I try to know my limitations and try to master one gun rather than switching between full size, compact etc. I am writing to thank you for your well written honest in depth review. In analyzing the instances where this has occurred, I’ve determined that the palm of my support hand is making contact with the rear portion of the button that’s raised above the grip surface. One thing I had to do was to sand down the right side rear edge of the 365's magwell becuae it was sharp and poking into my palm. Thanks so much for a great in-depth review. Listed the loaded weight, oops. Great, insightful and thorough review! You have provided an excellent review regarding this new sig 9mm. They stated that production was halted to iron out some bugs, which is accurate, and Sig has unequivocally said that the primer drag “issue” is working as intended, and that it shouldn’t cause early firing pin breakage. The only problem with the SIG P365 ammo…it’s harder to find in stock than it is to find a P365 itself! But it is officially and honorably retired from EDC. So the round fired, but the casing did not extract from the chamber? I even asked for them to add the manual safety. No mention of the known issues of the 365, including dragging firing pin? And then there’s the fact that it just happens to hold 10+1 rounds in its standard configuration. The mag. FYI, repair sheet says SIG replaced recoil springs, polished barrel transition, lubricated and test fired 20 rounds each of two makes of ammo. Shootability—I come back to a statement I made earlier. The slide serrations are effective. Found a design problem with a retention strap been positioned on the inside of the holster. The P365 is the perfect size to conceal and itâs got an unprecedented 10-round magazine, making it one of the best pistols out there for home defense.. Riley, what an awesome and thorough review! SIG designed the magazine first and then built the gun around in. The problem I have with the P365 is the trigger pull. Yes and according not to me but by an article that first appeared in the American Rifleman Magazine that appeared when the Sig P220 was first introduced, the gun was designed to be made as fast and as cheap as possible. Did you ever do this? I've owned the P365 for a couple of months now, and I agree with most of this review. Also, the SCCY feels like holding a brick in your hand with how fat the grip is (for me, at least). I can quickly place a double tap in the vital areas of the chest and pelvis area. I regularly witness malfunctions from a variety of semi-automatic handguns including Glocks, Smith & Wesson M&P’s, Rugers, etc. This time last year (2017) I was opening a press release from SIG and being blown away reading about the new gun they named the P365. Thank you for the kind words. No idea if it will get on the approved California list. The Front Sight—while the new XRAY3 Day/Night Sights are excellent and very visible, I actually feel the front sight is a tad wider than it needs to be. That’s awesome, Brad! Magazine Release—this is also a minor issue I have with the gun, and it may be specific to me, but I think the mag release could have been designed differently. It could be the next big thing in CCWs and create a trend in the industry for smaller, double stack 9mms. Very thorough indeed but it was summed up nicely by someone you mentioned who stated that clearly the gun was released prematurely and the buying public used as the R&D team. Do you think the ambi safety paddles would interfere with the top of the thumb of the right hand? I just can’t wrap my mind around the many different types of failures. Going to pick up a 12 round mag this week. My wife has been looking for an EDC and is not a fan of how my Hellcat grip texture feels in the webbing of her thumb. After carrying mine near daily since completing a straight-from-the-box 1,000 round test, I thought [â¦] Of course, it is entirely possible there just happened to be a failure between the magazine follower and the slide stop. You’ll note that this is just a few weeks after they were officially released. 2. If they will take S&W 59 mags then I think you'll find CZ 75 mags will also work. The SIG P365 is a great little carry gun, and it’s been a welcome entry into my waistband. The whole drop fire deal rubbed me the wrong way. I can also confirm that after talking with SIG at the NRA Show this past weekend, the manual safety model is slated for shipping in about a month. Tac-Lab Holsters – www.facebook.com/TacLab2016/, 365 V-Crown, 9mm, FOXTROT365, GrayGuns, handgun, micro-compact, p365, PHLSTER, pistol, review, sig, sig sauer, Tac-Lab Holsters. SIG P365 grip with extended magazine base plate. I would consider the 365 anyday as my carry gun. That is great news, had no idea. Right now the obvious choice is the Shield RMSc, but it is not exactly the most durable optic. Sometimes they are ammunition caused and I personally feel many shooters rationalize the malfunctions they do experience and claim that their gun is “100% reliable.” I haven’t met a 100% reliable semi-auto yet. I find it fits my hand wonderfully with the 12 round mags (I bought 3). Literally one of the best performing 9mm rounds out of short barrels, and has all the same desirable characteristics as the Sig ammo, plus more widely tested consistent expansion. Several thousand rounds at the range, no issues. They’re good people. Neither one would run reliably with them. With “sidecar” spare mag pouch. Hold the line my brother. I notice the P365 pretty much disappears in my pocket. I “shift” my grip slightly on almost every gun I own in order to depress the mag releases. The manufacturer states it should be a 6-pound trigger. SIG is a huge company, but the P365 is most certainly a big seller. I think you should explore the FTE issue more. Changes the lockup and gun position, not a good idea. Sig 365 been carrying it now bout 6 months, it has been the most comfortable pistol I have ever carried. The reality is that engineers at SIG SAUER were instructed by then-new Pistol Product Manager, Phil Strader, to begin designing a new micro-compact pistol but to start first by designing a double-stack magazine capable of holding at least 10 rounds and making it as small as possible. Erica. The slide lock is small but textured with a ‘step’ that allows your thumb to reach it with ease.
